Where They Are: There are over 100 different ant species native to Missouri. Only a handful of these species are known to inhabit Missouri homes. Most ants can be found in moist areas or decaying wood. Ants can live up to 5 years depending on the species. This number drops when MO Pest gets involved.
What Do They Eat- Ants are scavengers so just about everything is food (sweets to other insects). In your home, they can be found around your sink feeding on food debris. If you are having issues with ants in other areas of your home, it is likely that you have wood decay in your home's structure due to moisture or termites.
How to Avoid Them- To effectively treat ants, the queen along with all of her workers must be eliminated. This is done by carefully observing the ants to establish their feeding pattern and nest location. A slow-acting "Ant Gel" is used to allow the worker ant to take the bait back to the nest. Liquid pesticides are generally only effective when applied directly to the nest and are commonly used to combat carpenter ants and other species found outside of the home.
